My identity crisis

I’m still a bit shocked… trying to put to words of what I’ve just saw. But let me first try to begin at the beginning. On the podcast Fake Doctors Real Friends (episode 403) Zach Braff suggested everyone to watch Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself. After seeing it, I just had to write something straight away… because what I’m feeling is so profound.

If you’ve been reading my posts you might have deduced that I work in IT within the healthcare sector. However if you would look up my LinkedIn page you’d see that I have over 5 roles / jobs which I’m currently fulfilling. I don’t think that is wrong per se. This diversity in work has kept me engaged and motivated to always push myself further, to explore and learn new things and to help society move forward. This is what you’ll also see on the main page of this website, I like doing (and learning) multiple things.

And this brings me to my current situation. I’m going through – what people like to call – a “seven year itch”. This “itch” is not with my significant other, but with my life as a whole. Who am I? What do I want to do with my life? What are things you want to achieve and what makes you happy? Due to those aforementioned “issues”, I’ve been walking with these questions for some time now and I haven’t found any answers yet…

Without spoiling the show, Derek DelGaudio tackles the most important question: “Who am I?”. Through his unique performance using art, magic, sound, storytelling and even the audience, he gives new meaning to this question. The end result will leave you amazed, inspired and teary. For me personally it gave me a fresh new perspective I didn’t know I needed. If you are reading this and want to get in touch with your inner self, your emotions, then do not hesitate. The show is currently streaming on Hulu, but I wished that I could have seen it in theatres.
